Success stories: Climate resilience

The interconnectedness ofĀ climateĀ and ocean as well as the need to buildĀ resilienceĀ are now essential parts of the new ocean agenda. The effects ofĀ climateĀ change are already being profoundly felt in the ocean, a reality that policymakers collectively acknowledged when they signed up to develop a treaty on marine biodiversity.Ā ClimateĀ andĀ resilience will be hotly debated topics at the World Ocean Summit in Japan in March next year.

At the World Ocean Initiative we have recently explored how a new UN climateĀ change report highlights both risks and opportunities for the blue economy. We have also shone a light on what the shipping sector is doing to cut its carbon emissions and how international agreements can help to tackle plastic pollution. Finally, we have examined to what extent seagrass can realise its potential in the fight against climateĀ change.
