Shaping the next generation of ocean leaders

The UN Decade of Ocean Science and Sustainable Development is well underway. To deliver on global sustainability goals—the theme of this year’s World Ocean Summit—and unlock the true potential of the ocean economy, we need to foster blue skills within and across disciplines.

This month we celebrate International Day of Education and what it means for the ocean community. The next generation of ocean leaders will be intersectional, explains our guest blogger from Duke University. Watch a recent WOS Insight Hour on ocean stewardship highlighting the importance of education, creativity and innovation across industries in solving pressing ocean challenges. Dive into a book I had the pleasure of contributing to, edited by World Ocean Summit 2022 speakers Richard Spinrad and Liesl Hotaling. Finally, catch up with one of our ocean changemakers and get excited for the next Ocean Changemaker Challenge, announcement coming soon.
