Moderating at UN World Oceans Day event

Today is World Oceans Day! Economist Impactā€™s World Ocean Initiative is a media partner of the United Nations World Oceans Day, hosted by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, in cooperation with its non-profit production partner Oceanic Global. Following a presentation on ā€œThe value of a living oceanā€ by Ralph Chami, I moderated the in-person panel discussion on ā€œA Revitalized Ocean Economyā€ at UN Headquarters in New York.

It was a great discussion about the outlook for a sustainable ocean economy, prospects for blue carbon and blue finance, and opportunities for ocean entrepreneurship, with three great panelists:

ā€¢ Kendra MacDonald, CEO of Canadaā€™s Ocean Supercluster
ā€¢ Andrew Hudson, head, Water & Ocean Governance Program at UNDP
ā€¢ Whitney Johnston, Director of Ocean Sustainability, at Salesforce

This year’s hybrid celebration was live broadcasted from 10AM to 1:30PM EDT on Wednesday, June 8th at UNWorldOceansDay.org. Revisit UN World Oceans Day here: https://unworldoceansday.org/2022

Each year on June 8th, UN World Oceans Day raises global awareness of the importance of and current challenges to the ocean. This yearā€™s theme is ā€œRevitalization: Collective Action for the Oceanā€, through which we are excited to shed light on communities, ideas, and solutions that offer creative ways to rebalance our relationship with the ocean. Revitalization in this sense means restoring a sense of vibrancy and vitality to our mindsets, our ideas, our work, and our collaborations with the objective of helping the ocean regain its vibrancy and vitality as well.
