New study on “Ending hunger: the role of agri-food financing”

An estimated 150 million more people were suffering from hunger in 2021 than there had been in 2019. Reversing this worrying trend - and restoring progress towards zero hunger - will require a significant uplift in financing for agri-food systems. I was the project director of a new Economist Impact study on this topic.

Moderating 5 sessions at Sustainability Week

I moderated five sessions at Economist Impact's Sustainability Week between Monday March 21st and Thursday March 24th, on topics such as investing in nature, the road to nature-positive, and farming for the future. On the in-person day in London on March 22nd I moderated sessions on materials and technology, and measuring the S in ESG.

Launch of Food Sustainability Index

I am pleased to announce the publication of the latest Food Sustainability Index (FSI), a project that I have directed since 2017. Developed by Economist Impact with the support of the Barilla Foundation, the FSI examines how food systems are performing across three pillars: food loss and waste, sustainable agriculture, and nutritional challenges.

I am honoured to be a faculty member of the Food & Sustainability course of the European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability (EIIS) again this year. The Food Sustainability Index, developed by Economist Impact with the support of the Barilla Foundation, is the main educational tool used during the course.

On November 26th 2020 I presented The Economist Intelligence Unit's Food Sustainability Index as part of a panel discussion on the science of characterising and assessing the transition towards more sustainable food systems.

On September 10th I presented the Food Sustainability Index during a webinar on teaching the complexity of food sustainability. The webinar explored how to introduce the FSI EDU toolkit in university curricula.
