Participating in Destination Canada’s Innovate Canada Oceans event

Last week I was in Victoria, BC, Canada to attend Destination Canada’s Innovate Canada Oceans event.

Great meetings with ocean innovators and leaders from Canada and beyond, including:

🌊 Bill Collins from Cascadia Seaweed highlighting his inspiring journey to set up Canada’s largest seaweed farm with a mission to produce climate-positive biomass in the ocean.
🌊 Ocean Networks Canada (part of the University of Victoria) and particularly its recent focus on capturing C02 and storing it beneath the sea floor as “Solid Carbon”.
🌊 Seaspan ULC’s Victoria Shipyard, a major ship repair and modernisation facility.
🌊 Meeting innovators during a reception at Canada’s Pacific hub for the sustainable blue economy, COAST (Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies), showcasing innovations such as Greenline Marine Inc. (all-electric ferries), zero-emission Alberni Yachts and SEAMOR Marine Ltd.’s remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
🌊 Open Ocean Robotics and its solar-powered autonomous boats.

Amazing setting in Victoria with lots of exciting activities such as whale-watching and a seaplane tour of the harbour. Great to join the experience with fellow ocean enthusiasts Chris Ostrander, João Formiga, Millicent Pitts, Rick Murray and Rick Wall. Particular thanks to Virginie De Visscher and Pamela Wilton for being such amazing hosts.
